I-DAIR’s 2022 Annual Report

In 2022, I-DAIR grew and established itself as a pioneering organization dedicated to digital health and AI for collaborative research.

Our Year at a Glance

Project Developments

I-DAIR released the Mental Health and Wellbeing edition of its Global Research Map, made available to the global scientific community as a public digital good to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

We also launched the citizen science needs assessments to research optimal approaches to building participatory intelligence for efficient pandemic preparedness and response.

We assembled the first Research Infrastructure Box in Geneva, establishing the first node of the federated edge cluster architecture.

Alongside WHO, we are co-leading the development of a digital health competency framework for health policymakers, planners, providers and practitioners, and patients. On February 27th and 28th, 2023, the I-DAIR Board met for the second time in Geneva and online. The highlight of the meeting was the appointment of I-DAIR’s new CEO. The name will be revealed shortly, after the finalization of the internal processes. I-DAIR looks very much forward to his joining and leading the team!

Partnerships

We grew our network of partners by signing MoUs with seven new institutions, including the WHO outlining our joint efforts to advance digital technologies for personal and public health globally.

I-DAIR’s Global Representation

I-DAIR presented its work at the UN Headquarters in New York, demonstrating its relevance and unique position to bridge the digital health and AI knowledge gap and accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda.

I-DAIR and partners addressed the growing knowledge and power imbalance in AI research and innovation for health through a high-level panel session held at the UNGA77 Science Summit.

We participated at the World Health Summit to spark stakeholder engagement for a Global Health Data Space that could help to treat and govern data for health as a global public good.

Institutionalization

We inaugurated our Board, bringing together leading voices from the digital and health fields and reflecting high standards of transdisciplinarity and diversity, with particular attention to gender, geographic and sectoral representations.

In 2022, I-DAIR also registered as an independent entity under Swiss law and achieved full operational autonomy in February 2023.

Resource Mobilization

I-DAIR was awarded a CAD 1.2 million grant by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to improve the implementation of responsible and gender-responsive AI in global health in LMICs.

WHO selected I-DAIR as a partner for a project on Evidence for Traditional Medicine.
