Our History

An Organizational Refresh

Following four years of operation under The International Digital Health and AI Research Collaborative, HealthAI reflects a revisioned strategy that clarifies our work and directly addresses the needs of countries and the wider global health community.

Over the last two decades, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a vital innovation sector, including the rapid development of AI-driven solutions with immense potential to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities worldwide. These technologies require strong, responsive regulatory mechanisms that can balance the agile requirements of technological advancement with the need to protect everyone against potential harm.

Regulation of AI is a critical topic for many policymakers, technologists, and health system managers. It will also require a global effort to ensure AI does not exacerbate the digital divide. Supporting countries—and the global community as a whole—as they implement ethical and technical standards for AI technologies will be paramount for the future of health.

The 2023 organizational refresh positions Health AI as a premier implementing partner for country governments, normative bodies, the private sector, and other stakeholders working to deliver AI-enabled health solutions. Health AI will provide expertise and services to ensure the adoption of global standards and best practices across all stakeholders, a critical but developing area of work that will grow in importance as technology advances.
